About Copland Photography

I didn't pick up a camera and decide to photograph interiors.

I built them first.

Years of it. kitchens, wardrobes, living room cabinets, boot rooms, utility spaces. The whole range of built-in furniture that makes a home feel considered rather than assembled. I knew how every piece went together because I'd put it together myself.

Somewhere along the way, I started photographing the work too. Nothing formal at first, just wanting to document what we'd made before it disappeared into someone's home. But I got better at it, and eventually I was making the spaces and shooting them.

When that chapter ended, I had to work out what came next. I'd spent long enough in that world to know how much craft goes into a well-made room. I'd also spent long enough to know that most of it never gets seen properly.

So I made the photography a thing.

The way I move around a space on a shoot, the things I stop to look at, the moments I wait for, it's not just a photographer's instinct. It's a maker's eye looking for what's true about a room. The junction between two materials. The shadow a handle throws at a certain time of day. The decision someone made about a detail that nobody asked them to think that hard about.

I'm based in Bath and work across the South West - primarily with hospitality businesses, kitchen designers, interior designers and makers. Places and people where the quality of the work deserves to be seen properly.
